Ellen Averill Gutekunst
Artist Statement
Making drawings and paintings is a short hand for lived experience. That can be an intense visual perception transmitted through mark making and color. Sometimes it is a composed version of something not intended or understood but arrived at anyway. As an artist, observation is a starting point. Response is a series of choices that keep being updated as I engage with new information and technical issues. Being able to make artifacts that are able to convey meaning for others is to participate in a deeper way with my community.
